It seems that while we may have missed Christmas in July and Santa is not expected to return until Dec. 25, we can still believe in the magic of delivered gifts throughout the year. In fact, just this week our build site was left with a beautiful, stretch film wrapped, bundle of LP SmartSide. If you’ve seen the renderings?of the Santa Claus Haus you may notice that it is skinned and textured in what looks to be LP SmartSide, shiplap edge, paneling. You may even have noticed a top portion constructed with SmartSide Cedar Shakes. And if so, you noticed correctly. It is no secret at all that we are LP fans having constructed our original tiny house on wheels?(here is an installation video as well), our current doghouse, our garden storage shed, our chicken coop, and our barn, using the siding product. And for good reason!

LP? siding is made from wood particles and wood fibers. The wood is treated with a Zinc Borate compound to help protect against fungal decay and termites. Exterior resins are used to complete the process, creating more strength in extreme weather elements. Not only that but?LP?SmartSide?gives the authentic look of real wood grain that’s factory primed, with the durability to withstand cupping and warping; unlike traditional wood products. And it is so easy to paint!

For those interested parties, our LP delivery came direct from Cedar Creek Statesville in Statesville, NC (just outside of Charlotte). This is the second time I have taken shipment from the distributor and both times have been an excellent experience. The material has arrived in perfect condition, the driver was courteous and helpful, and they arrived on absolute time!

At a total weight of 831 lbs. the Santa Claus Haus will be wrapped in 3/8 x 4 x 8 sheets of smart panel?as well as 7/16 x 12 x 48 fiber cedar shakes. The trim work will be done using 19/32 x 4 x 16 thin trim/fascia and 3/8 x 16 x 192 soffit. It’s going to be one cool looking micro on wheels!

Experience has shown us that it is easier to paint the material before hanging it so our next step is to choose our red and white paint, and get to rolling!
